DAY 01: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU

The tour begins very early, a day of adventure. We pick you up at your hotel at 4:00 am, and then we head in our private transportation to the Ollantaytambo train station to board the 6:10 am Expedition train. You’ll enjoy the journey through alpine meadows nestled between peaks of green and white glaciers, intricately formed valleys, layers of Inca artisan terraces, snow-capped mountains, and the subtropical jungle near the Amazon from Ollantaytambo. The sacred Vilcanota River will be our companion until we arrive in Aguas Calientes.

Your guide will meet you at the train station in Aguas Calientes around 7:30 am and transfer you to Machu Picchu by shuttle bus. Following the ancient and remote steps of the Lost City of the Incas, listen closely to the 2 and a half hours of guided tour and cultural exchange of Machu Picchu’s history. Then you will be given free time to explore, take photos, or walk to the Sun Gate. Returning to Aguas Calientes, you will have time for lunch and catch the afternoon train at 14:55 or 15:20 with the Expedition train to Ollantaytambo, where we will transfer you in a private van back to your hotel in Cusco.

EXPEDITION TRAIN

The Expedition service is designed for traveler’s comfort, as you can share your experience with four passenger seats located facing each other. An overhead luggage rack is provided for your backpack. Andean music is played throughout the journey, panoramic windows, air conditioning, and heating are available.

The Expedition service departs from Ollantaytambo, located 2 hours from Cusco.

This is a travel experience with all the quality and benefits of Peru’s railway at a lower cost.

* Please note that it is not possible to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain with this schedule.
